It’s been a while since I’ve posted any photos and the little guy above is a big part of the reason. In March my wife and I welcomed our little guy Owen into the world. It’s crazy to think that he’s three months old already and growing up incredibly fast.

This is Molson, he belongs to our good friends Jay and Rosanna. He’s got to be the friendliest and most easy going dog I’ve ever met. He was an easy dog to photograph, as soon as I spoke and he saw the camera, he’d sit dead still until I got the shot.

2010 Cumberland Country Show & Shine

Car show season is once again upon us. If you’ve followed my photography much in the past, you’ll know that automobiles are by far some of my favourite photo subjects. Examples here and here. Yesterday, my wife and I attended the 2010 Cumberland County Show & Shine here in Amherst. It’s one of the smaller shows I’ve been to, but the quality in cars definitely wasn’t lacking as you can see from some of the shots I grabbed below.

Sugar Woods

A few weekends ago my wife and I took a trip to one of the local maple sugar woods with her sister, brother in-law, and niece. It was a beautiful day, but the strong sun glaring off the fresh white snow made it a bit difficult at times to grab properly lit photos.

It’s never difficult to snap a great shot of our niece, Casey. She loves having her picture taken and is more than happy to hold a smile as long as she needs to. This one was another from our recent family walk in the local bird sanctuary.

Chickadee

We had beautiful weather this past weekend so my wife and I set out for an afternoon walk through the local migratory bird sanctuary. The chickadees are extremely tame and will land on your hand—looking for food of course. I managed to snag a couple of great shots, though they’re not the easiest bird to photograph as they rarely sit still.

Whistlers

On the Labour day weekend of 2009, my wife and I did our last trip to Jasper and Banff before we set on out on our move back to the Maritimes. Although we have done a lot of hiking in the Jasper area, we had never gone up on the Jasper Tramway and done the hike to the summit of Whistlers Mountain (~8000ft above sea level). We took the opportunity this time, even though it was ridiculously busy.

This is the first stopping point on the hike. This shot really doesn’t do the location justice. The grade is incredibly steep here, so much so that we walked past a couple of people that were having trouble coaxing themselves to go back down this part of the mountain to the tram station in the center of the shot. If you look closely at the bottom of the photo, you’ll see a woman in a red jacket with yellow trim sitting down on a rock, she was one of those having trouble summoning the courage to get back down.

It was incredibly cloudy that day (as you can see in the first shot) but as we were reaching the summit the sun started to poke holes in the clouds that surrounded us (literally, we were right in the middle of a cloud as we hiked) and we were presented with some breathtaking views. The photo above is a shot of the Yellowhead Mountain Range. The sunlight filtering through the clouds created some amazing colours on the ice caps of the mountains.

Even though we no longer live in Alberta, Jasper will always be one of my favourite places in Canada. Hopefully we’ll be able to return before too long to visit and explore some more hiking trails.

Classic Car Nights

The last few days I’ve been going through the shots that I took in 2009 and reminiscing a bit about our time living in Alberta and St. Albert in particular. Each Tuesday evening during the summer months the Gold Dust Casino in St. Albert had a classic car night. It was always a great photo opportunity as well as a chance to talk to the owners of some of the cars to get their stories about their ride.
